Five more brain exercises

Learn something new - for instance next time you're in a waiting room, grab one of the magazines. It doesn't matter which one it is but generally it should be one of which you have little or no knowledge of. Scan through a few of the articles, ideally ones that catch your eye. Think of the key points of the article and then relate this new information to what you already know. Building connections like this in your mind will improve your memory and this exercise can help you think more creatively.

Sing - If you are working on something tough, try singing about the problem. The right part of your brain is better at pattern recognition, this is why it's easier to rhyme when singing than reading or writing. By using your right brain you can approach problems in different ways.

Audio books - Use free time effectively and learn something new with an audiobook. Whether it's a work of fiction or you want to learn a new skill.

Take a new route - Got time to spare? Take a new route on the way to work or anywhere else. It doesn't have to be a big change, but you'll find just mixing things up will help your brain. You may even find a faster way.

Guess the coins - A little game you can play with yourself. Try to guess the value of the coins you have in your pocket.
